ExpressPod Black Screen or Charging Issues

Screen gone dark? Here's how to bring it back

If your ExpressPod screen is black or the device won't charge properly, this is almost always a power issue — and the fix is straightforward.

Start Here

  1. Check the power switch. Make sure it's in the On position (behind the question panel).
  2. Try a power cycle. Switch off, wait 10 seconds, switch back on. See Reboot Your ExpressPod.
  3. Check the batteries. If the device runs on D-cell batteries, replace them with fresh ones. Dead batteries are the most common cause of a black screen. See Change ExpressPod Batteries.

Charging Models (ExpressPod with Built-in Battery)

Some ExpressPod models have a rechargeable built-in battery instead of D-cells.

The device may have overheated or the charge level dropped too low. Disconnect the charging cable, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect. If the screen doesn't light up within 10 minutes, try a different USB cable and power adapter.

  • Use the original power adapter — third-party adapters may not deliver enough power.
  • Make sure the cable is firmly seated in the port.
  • Leave the device charging for at least 2 hours without pressing buttons.

This can happen when the battery has degraded after extended use. Contact support@ombea.com — we'll help you determine if the battery needs replacing.
