Set Your Survey Language
Decide which language your respondents see — and how it gets picked.
- You need admin access to do this. About roles
Two settings work together to determine what language your respondents see. The Stream defines which languages are available. The Touchpoint decides which one to show first.
Preview the language switcher before going live. Make sure respondents can easily find and use it — a smooth language experience boosts completion rates in multilingual locations.
How It Works
Step 1 — The Stream sets the menu. In the Stream wizard, you add one or more languages. The first language in the list is the primary language. Add Swedish, English, and German, and those three become available with Swedish as the default.
Step 2 — The Touchpoint picks from the menu. When you create or edit a Touchpoint, you choose a language mode that determines which language the respondent sees when the survey loads.
Language Modes
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Stream language | Uses the Stream's primary (first) language. This is the default. |
| Select language | You pick a specific language from the dropdown, overriding the Stream default. |
| Browser language | Detects the respondent's browser language. If it matches one of the Stream's languages, that language is shown. Otherwise it falls back to the Stream's primary language. |
Set the Language on a Touchpoint
- Go to Admin > Touchpoints in the sidebar.
- Navigate to the Location or Website that holds the Touchpoint.
- Single-click it to open the details panel, then click the pencil icon.
- Go to Step 2 — Touchpoints and click the Touchpoint you want to edit.
- Under Select language mode, choose your mode: Stream language, Select language, or Browser language.
- If you chose Select language, pick the language from the dropdown.
- Click Done, then Save.
Set Available Languages on a Stream
- Open your Stream in the Stream wizard.
- In the language section, click Edit to open the language selection modal.
- Add or remove languages. Drag to reorder — the first language in the list becomes the primary language.
- Save the Stream.
The language list contains 75+ languages. The first one in the list is what respondents see when no other language mode overrides it.
Good to Know
When a Stream supports multiple languages, the survey shows a language selector. Respondents can switch between available languages at any time without reloading.
Language controls the text content (questions, buttons, labels). Visual styling (colors, fonts, background) is a separate concern — see Change Colors, Fonts & Design.
